## Impact of Capacity Building on Agricultural Innovation: Educational Learning, Organizational Training, and Coaching### IntroductionSuccessful innovation in agriculture demands employees with intellectual and technical capabilities. This study investigated the impact of capacity building through educational learning, organizational training, and coaching on agricultural innovation.### MethodologyA sample of 142 agricultural scientists employed by a public sector agricultural research organization in Zimbabwe participated in the study. Six key informants provided additional insights. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and binary logistic regression analyses were employed.### ResultsSignificant positive relationships were found between receiving adequate academic study opportunities and having relevant qualifications, as well as needing additional qualifications to enhance innovativeness. Similarly, organizational training was perceived to be effective, and there was a significant relationship between requiring further training and improving innovation. Lastly, direct supervisor guidance and coaching significantly contributed to employee innovativeness.### Challenges and StrategiesBudgetary constraints were a major challenge. Suggestions for enhancing capacity building included improved physical training workshops, exposure visits, and short courses; increased research funding; regular training programs; and external collaboration.### ConclusionCapacity building through educational learning, organizational training, and coaching positively influenced agricultural innovation. Organizations should provide scholarships, incentives, and upgrade opportunities to encourage employees to pursue higher education and prioritize tailor-made training and coaching programs. By investing in capacity building, organizations can foster innovation and drive agricultural transformation.
